AMERICAN VETERANS
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
Your
veteran’s origination's need your
support.
The American Legion, AMVETS and the Veterans of Foreign Wars
would like to invite all honorably discharged veterans to join and
support these service originations. These veterans’ originations work
hard to aid and support all veterans. They support current military
personal and all fellow veterans-each one of them, whether it is going
to bat for their earned entitlements or just providing the benefits
information they may need. Members like you make a difference. The
American Legion, AMVETS, and VFW membership provides for our veterans
and their families in a wide variety of ways. From assistance in
obtaining benefits and representing your interests in Washington D.C.,
to numerous money-saving discounts on products and services for the
American Veterans.
Just some of the services performed by these Veterans'
Posts:
1. During the hurricanes devastation of the Gulf Cost
the American
Legion Posts sprang into action. Some became shelters
for veterans made homeless by the storm… served hot meals… provided
clothing and personal needs… searched for survivors.
2. In all, more than $1.7 million in immediate cash
grants were issued from Nation Headquarters to assist veterans and their
communities in the hurricane zone.
3. Last year, Legion Post provided military funeral
honors for 93,603 veterans who, without your membership, might not have
been so honored; the AMVETS also served as many veterans with military
funerals.
4. The Legion and AMVETS Post around the country have
“adopted” dozens of active duty units, National Guard Armories and
Reserve Centers to provide much needed support for our troops.
5. 40,815 Legionnaires donated a total of 92,273 pints
of blood in 2006-7.
6. 2,500 Boy Scout units and 70,000 young people in
Scouting are sponsored by the Legion Posts.
7. Your dues have also helped the Legion provide
scholarships to the children of the U.S. military personnel who have
died in action since the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
8. The Legion’s and AMVETS regularly perform quality
control surveys at VA medical facilities throughout America--- again,
funded by your dues.
9. 25,000 young men annually develop hands on
understanding of government through The American Legion’s Boys State and
Boys Nation programs. The Legion Ladies Auxiliary Organizations provide
the same for the girls.
10. 97,000 young men ages 15-19 participated in
American Legion Baseball in 2006.
11. 5,000 high school students participated in the
National Oratorical Contest competition last year, a program that
engages the minds of young leaders and cultivates understanding of the
U.S. Constitution.
12. The American Legion has never forgotten, nor will
it ever forget, our nation’s POW/MIAs, and it continues to elevate
public awareness.
13. The American Legion & AMVETS continually support
our local communities and schools (College grants, etc.) They help the
needy when fire, sickness or death effect citizens of our community.
I could list more pages than you would care to read
